Promoting Entrepreneurship & Innovation in India
On Thursday, September 15, 2016 at 3:00 p.m., The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) Midwest Chapter and the Consulate General of India, Chicago held a conference to discuss “Promoting Entrepreneurship & Innovation in India”. The event brought together The Government of India (through its Consulate in Chicago), Entrepreneurs, Venture Capitalists and Business Leaders in and around Chicago to share their diverse experiences and unique perspectives.
Bala Palamadai, President, TiE Midwest and Founder & CEO of Bizofit (https://www.bizofit.com) opened the session providing the context that with 19,000+ startups in India, India is now being viewed increasingly as a “Destination for Innovation & Digital Transformation”.
Dr. Ausaf Sayeed, the Consul General of India, Chicago spoke eloquently about how the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambitious Startup India program aims to fill gaps in the economy for the growth and development of startups and to boost digital entrepreneurship at the grassroots. Startup India has brought lots of positivity among the entrepreneurs in India and as of now India has the third largest number of start-ups globally.
Ms. Neeru Arora, the CIO of Aon Shared Services and the Chief Knowledge Officer of Aon Corporation, provided some great insights into how Aon was leveraging the tremendous talent India has to offer in high-end areas such as Data Analytics, and Risk Management.
Piyush Singh, the CEO of Terrene Labs talked about his experiences with identifying exciting startups through Intech50. N Shridhar, Founder of Pegasus Fininvest talked about its recently approved first start-up fund with its focus on Social Impact Investing. Nin Desai, CEO Nin Ventures spoke about working with the governments in India and in the U.S. to help promote entrepreneurship in healthcare. Mr. Narendra Kale talked about his Entrepreneurship journey, and his contributions towards formulating startup policies in India.
